World Elder Awareness Day 2022

World Elder Awareness Day 2022

"Building strong support for Elders"

The Wirral Domestic Abuse Alliance teamed up with Age UK Wirral to host this years event for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

This event is for both elder people and professionals alike to raise awareness to ensure our older population live free from abuse within our area, bringing our community together.

Join us on 15th June from 11am to take part in some activities and a walk around Birkenhead Park in solidarity against Elder Abuse.

Make sure you wear purple!

Instances of abuse increased during the pandemic. Those who are particularly vulnerable may accept help from those who seek to exploit them, as they will be at risk without the safeguards offered by regular day-to-day contact with the outside world.

Examples of abuse include:

  • Domestic abuse - those living with an abusive partner or family member may have faced an increase in abuse during lockdowns and restrictions
  • Financial abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Neglect
  • Sexual abuse
  • Scams, including those offering help and advice on COVID-19 or with financial assistance
  • Fraud
